Prof. dr hab. dr h.c. Zygmunt Pejsak is the Head of the Department of Swine Diseases at The National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Pulawy since 1981. He is also the Head of OIE Reference Laboratory for Classical Swine Fever and OIE Reference Laboratory for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome as well as the Chairman of the Sanitary and Epizootic Council appointed by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Scientific Council at NVRI.

Prof. Zygmunt Pejsak is a recognized expert in diseases of swine. He worked as a veterinary surgeon at the industry state pig farm between 1972 and 1977. He was a visiting assistant professor at the Iowa State University (1977-1978). He also worked as a director of the largest state pig farm in Poland (1978-1980). In 2000 prof. Zygmunt Pejsak became a Member of European College of Pig Health Management. Currently he is a head of the National Reference Laboratories for African swine fever, classical swine fever, pseudorabies, leptospirosis and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome. In 1991 he was nominated for OIE expert on classical swine fever and in 2011 for OIE expert on Reference Laboratory for PRRS. He participated in several OIE ad hoc group meetings as an expert.

Prof. Pejsak has developed several vaccines and other pharmaceuticals routinely used in Poland and outside of the country. He is also an author and co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications on diseases of swine and he was involved in multiple national and international research projects. His current research projects and activity focus on viral and bacterial diseases of swine with special emphasis on classical swine fever, African swine fever, porcine circovirus type 2, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome and mixed infections of respiratory tract. Main fields of interest are diagnostics and epidemiological studies related with above-mentioned diseases.
